Learning about our community...
We have been working very hard, learning about our community. We have discovered a lot of cool things about Te Tai Poutini - the West Coast Of New Zealand. We have all been very engaged in learning about our turangawaewae. We have also been learning about the tangata of our rohe (area). Pyper has come up with five important people from our community. here is her video:

She has also created a fabulous slideshow:
Meesha and Alyssa put together a very informative slideshow all about our community:
Jono also did a fabulous job of synthesising information and presenting it in an informative and interesting way.
Marko and Nio created a bitable with a wee bit of info around European settlement here in Mawhera.

Map of stories
Kia ora. At the beginning of this term we started to research our community. We begun with the Treaty of Waitangi and what it meant here in Mawhera, Greymouth. We used the Map of Stories resources from @schoolkit to create some found poetry art based on the art of Tracey Tawhaio.
First we looked into our town and shared our ideas on this padlet.
Next, we began to find some words and newspaper clippings that would help us tell our story. We thought about theme colours to use and the kinds of pictures we wanted to use. Once we had all that it was time to put it all together. This was quite tricky. Mrs Bellis had created an exemplar for us to follow which helped. The painting was messy and we layered so much it took a long time to dry.

This is what we created. Tell us what you think :)
