What is Faith?

Term Two begins...

Kia ora whanau.

This year is going by so fast!  May already!  We have begun the term with creating group rules so that we can focus on effective collaboration when we work in groups.  Then (in groups) we have planned edible gardens.  We have started building them out the back.  It is tricky, noisy and messy but we are loving it.  Here are some pictures of the job so far.  Next week we will finish painting our garden boxes and then we will be planting some seeds.

Literacy - our digital modelling book

Now that our class is digital, we have been innovative about the way we do things.  Our reading group shares a slideshow that goes for the whole term.  This is where Mrs Bellis puts the WALT and all the things we learn about in a lesson.  Often she has things there before our lesson so we can be prepared.  During our lesson we add as we are learning - we use text and photos of our whiteboards mainly.  After our lesson we usually have follow up, this goes on our slideshow too.  We have a whole terms worth of learning in one slideshow.  Each group has one of these.  This is Kapa Rua's Literacy for term one.  We are currently reading and writing narratives.  This week we described the character we are writing about and then we drew the character.  This slideshow will continue updating ans changing until the end of the term.  This means we can look back at what we have learned, check up on things, and make sure we are up to date.

In our classroom we looked at the Treaty of Waitangi and we talked about how we can honour the Treaty in our classroom.    This is what the amazing learner's of Galilee came up with!

Water who needs it?

This term we have 'Water, who needs it?' as our theme.  We have been doing some research and note taking.  Check out our class padlet - this is where we have shared a lot of the new information we have found out about water.  We hope you learn something.  Keep an eye on our individual blogs to see the DLO's we create for our 12 activities.

Place Value Experts

Today we had some of our year 5 and 6 students talking about place value.  I think they have done a fabulous job of teaching us a bit about place value.  What do you think?
