Year 5 & 6 Arthur's Pass Camp

Do you know which bird has the shortest beak in the world?

It's the kiwi!  Strange huh?   Beaks are measured from the nostrils and kiwi are unique because their nostrils are at the end of their bill, so the part past the nostrils is very small.  That is just one of the really cool things we learned about up in Arthur's Pass.

On our way up to the Devil's Punchbowl waterfall.

River crossing

Hungry kids waiting for tea!

Working as a team - bridge building

 Playing outside in free time

We tried out so many fun and challenging activities and had a fabulous time.  The weather was perfect and our ranger - Logan was awesome.  We will be talking about this camp for a long time!!

Creating a menu for an athlete...

It has been a quiet week while the year 7 and 8 children have been on camp.
The year 4,5 & 6 children have been very busy!  We created a day meal plan for an athlete, and then we made a menu, created the food and dressed a table.  It was so much fun!

The very next day, we got to meet Ruby Tui! She is inspirational.  We got to ask her about what she eats when she trains - we were  very happy to hear that we had researched well when we created out menus.

One of the writing challenges this fortnight was to create a rap about learning. Here is Ben's.  Tell us what you think.

Tongan Language week

Lofa, Antonia, Mark, Losalia and Pesi made this awesome video to teach us about Tongan language.  They sound amazing.

Sovia made us a video introducing herself in Tongan and told us some words and phrases.  We are going to start using some of these in our classroom.

Libby compares The ancient and modern Olympics

One of our choices for our Olympic inquiry was to compare the ancient Olympic games with the modern Olympics games.  Libby created a venn diagram to compare and contrast.

ASB netball Championship

On Tuesday, a team of year 7 and 8 children went to the Anzac Park netball courts with Mrs Bellis for the ASB Netball Championship.

We played hard, we played fair and we did pretty well too.  We ended up coming fourth.  It was a lot of fun!
